Llansawel Agored is a social enterprise that began in 2014 and was officially established in 2020. Our campsite aims to support our social and environmental goals. These aims include assisting others to access the outdoor environment and support social and mental well-being. Llansawel Agored looks toward the 5 ways to wellbeing with our social aims- Mindful, Active, Give, Learn, Connect.
Environmental aims are to improve our environment. We achieve this through tree planting, land management, and cleaning/clearing projects. Between 2021 and 2026, some 5000 trees have been planted in various locations. There have also been developments and environmental improvements along with habitat creation; these days are mindful activities that give back to our environment while connecting with like-minded people.
Our social enterprise aims include a men’s shed to assist with the well-being of others. We also have a canoe club through Canoe Wales, which specialises in Open Canoeing. These two social aims generally take place more over the winter months when our campsite is not in use. Through our social aims we have also been able to run multiple first aid courses for our local community, join us to learn something new with like minded people in both active and relaxed settings.
This project is driven by Rhys Green, MA, PGCE. Rhys is an Outdoor Educator specialising in paddlesport. Rhys has been a coach educator for British Canoeing, a mountain leader, a mountain bike coach, an archery instructor and a bushcraft educator. Passionate about assisting others to enjoy the outdoors, this campsite is a catalyst for these aims.
